If you follow the complete story of the resurrection of Jesus it becomes clear that it was not a physical resurrection. At first nobody recognised Jesus, well that's just not possible, later a few of the disciples did not recognise Jesus, until Thomas was the only one who was in doubt.

So it's a story about the deepest reality of Jesus, His words, His power to focus the Holy Spirit upon a small group of devout followers so they hd the strength and courage to establish the largest religious movement on earth.

Jesus resurrection was in the hands of the disciples and after three days of sadness and feeling lost, feeling defeated, they pulled themselves together and taught as Jesus taught them. They regained their faith in Jesus and this was the resurrection of Christ.

The stories about touching wounds, beholding Him, eating before Him are all ways of declaring that the spiritual truth of Jesus resurrection was just as real as if He was there physically. The slow realisation that all was not lost and that death could never contain the Word of Christ dawned on the disciples and Jesus rose from death and remains so.

It is meaningless as a literal story and such an event would have rocked the Roman world. It did not because it was a spiritual event and only those with inner sight new the truth of the moment. Jesus was larger in death than in life.
