    Yes wotsup, you say "these definitions need to be taken on the whole" and I agree, which is why the distinction between body and soul given by Matthew is so critical to this understanding. The verse you quote from Genesis requires the clarity given to it by Matthew.

    Genesis is not referring to THE soul, but A soul/living being.
    Matthew is talking about THE soul as the true reality of man which lives on after having had the experience of giving life to a physical being called the body, and into the afterlife.
