Very informative posts with positive implications.
Firstly forget "The LAW"!
Governments make laws.
Governments change laws.
Governments makes laws retrospective.
International obligations and expectations can be ignored.
Companies that "assert their RIGHTS" will lose!
CCU must make progress by building goodwill and with negotiations.
The company has some very sound reasons why the Government needs to tread carefully and hopefully realise CCU is an important ally in forwarding the interests of the nation.
Now that I realise an election is imminent I can interpret some of the implications of the announcements regarding greater ownership of profits from miners.
However after the elections and after courteous negotiations I am hopeful that CCU shareholders will benefit --- but perhaps with some cost.
Acceptable costs.
