Rudd won't lift retirement age to 67

Federal Labor leader Kevin Rudd says he's opposed to proposals to raise the pension age to 67.

The Committee for Economic Development in Australia has recommended raising the pension age from 65 to 67 by 2015.

But Mr Rudd said he was against any such plan.

"I don't support it," he told reporters in Adelaide.

"I think (Treasurer Peter) Costello has got an overall approach which is along these lines, which is: 'We are going to make you work from cradle to grave'.

"And it's these industrial relations laws which actually make it harder and harder for working families to save - that is the direction which he wants to take the country.

"I actually have a different view, it's called balance - balance between work and family, balance for working families, balance across the spectrum of your life so that you can look forward to a reasonable retirement."
