My mum lived until she was 97 years of age. I never heard her complain about her very meagre finances ever (my father died, leaving $20,000 at 54 before he retired from his factory job). She lived frugally, without being aware she did, never remarried, never received more than a partial pension, never worked after age 27 when pregnant with her first child, dressed well, sewed and made things, and enjoyed life until close to the end. I never ever heard her complain about not having enough money - NOT EVER. I intend to be as like her as I can be. Today pensioners have never had it so good. They can live in their $2million houses and still draw full pensions, all tax free. Enjoy your retirement - you can't take your house, cash, gold or silver with you.
