    Same problems we are seeing in the PIIGS now. None of those governments have any ability to alleviate the problems in their economy.

    Gold standard, centralised currency, pegging/fixing currencies. These all have the same effect of removing automatic stabilisers that may not prevent recession but do prevent a recovery.
