DARKER CORNERS
As important it is for a sports stars or movie celebrities to use the media to portray a particular image. So is the use of the media in shaping and encouraging the support of investors. Example of this can be gleaned from the media such as the investment disasters of Westgate and the Cazaly Resources. The motivation of brokers to sign up investor promising financial security and untold wealth, only to be cut short when the deal goes sour. However like these examples, there can also be a more sinister side to the investment media spin, where minority groups slander and dominate the media portraying aspects of a company's investment decisions. This is not done in a positive way where there may be a negative impact to the community. Like the debate down in Tasmania where Gunn's Ltd is proposing a paper pulp mill in the Tamar valley. But rather slandering companies like Range Resources who are intending to partner with Canmex in Puntland, Africa. The effort by a number of people, perhaps an orgaisation to orchestrate continual unfounded negative attacks on a company, takes media spin to a new low. Sure, as an investor it's good to get two side of an investment decision, but when individuals deliberately attack an organisation either directly or subversively to the loss of the share holders is treason. This new form of grass-roots subversion in the investment community needs to be tracked down and stopped, before more mum and dad investors are tarnished by this manipulative behaviour.
