I guess if we think we can't.....we can't.
It is a matter of canvassing one's MP & Senators at every opportunity and pointing out the fact that we now have no
car manufacturing to protect and that the multinational auto importers are simply protecting their hip pockets & not the Aussie
motorist when they object to the importation of japanese used cars.
Our arguement is:
-we have a free trade agreement with Japan
-Japan is a world leader in car technology so Australia should recognise Japanese vehicle safety, emissions & car security
standards ( that's what prevents us from importing used Japanese cars)
-our ports should be as efficient & as cheap as Japanese ports in handling car movements
-our quarantine service should be more efficient with lower fees.
-why have a Free Trade Agreement with Japan when average Aussies cant benefit by importing a good , cheap fuel efficient
car?
-by importing a good used , cheap , fuel efficient car we can save $10,000 in foreign exchange by not importing a new car
and we can then scrap a fuel guzzler saving the country $2000/year per car in petrol imports
It seems silly that one can load a car on a car carrier in Yokohama for $120 but it costs about $600 to handle the car
at the Port of Brisbane from a roll-on/roll-off vessel. What are we?
