Just want to add a few points
1. ads related relevance and image recognition is not the only part of AI and ML, there are a LOT more areas
2. AI will not replace human so there will be always demand for training data
3. If you think Appen is labour hiring firm, considering this:
Appen (BHP) hires people (Miner) to produce training data (Ore), however Appen owns the platform to produce/store/transport data with the help of AI/ML (like BHP if it owns port/rail/roads/machinery).
Is Appen a technology firm like FB and Google? no, but it has the potential if they can build the platform (which they are) and sell it
Is Appen a labour hiring firm? Well, depends on how you define it, all the companies are basically labour hiring firm....
