That report from EcoWatch that you reproduced verbatim in your posting contained (as is usual in media stories about A2) some good info and some very misleading info. I’ll comment on the misleading stuff.

The article said some people are sceptical because the a2 Milk Company has been involved in conducting and funding some of the research into the medical risks concerning A1 milk. The implication is that such research therefore lacks integrity, and readers may wonder about other “independent” research that contradicts it.

The short explanation is that if a2MC didn’t fund some research, none would be done at all. But that’s not quite true. The fact is, there’s a lot of other independent research being done by teams in various countries and their findings support a2MC’s own research. There’s no argument. And all this research has to be vetted by panels of independent experts before it’s published in specialised scientific journals.

Outfits like Fonterra and other big mainstream dairy organisations have armies of highly qualified dairy scientists with big budgets, and they’d love to come out with opposing findings but they can’t. For example, when Russian university researchers found proof that A1 milk and BCM7 are a cause of cot deaths, scientists working for the big dairy companies obviously would have looked closely at it but we didn’t hear from them.

The EcoWatch article also made quite a big thing about a 2005 review in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition which concluded that there is “no convincing or even probable evidence” that the A1 beta casein of cows’ milk could lead to type I diabetes or be a risk factor for coronary heart disease. The Journal criticised initial research linking A1 casein with diabetes and heart disease, and said larger scale research later failed to confirm it.

What EcoWatch didn’t tell us was that the Journal article was a personal contribution by Professor Stewart Trusswell of Sydney, who had been a consultant paid by the former NZ Dairy Board to give evidence against the former A2 Corporation in a court case, and that he must have known when he wrote the article that the later research he was basing his argument on was fundamentally flawed and utterly discredited. The reason? The rats used in part of the trial were fed A1 instead of being given an A1-free diet. And who gave them the A1? The Dairy Board’s own research team. A detailed account of this extraordinary screw-up was published in a later issue of the Journal.

That’s the only attempt I’m aware of to get an article published in a reputable journal undermining the medical claims made by researchers on the A2 side, and it was comprehensively demolished
