Actually Hershamboy, wheeze has a lot to do with lung capacity.
An increase in Wheezerate (as measured by Isonea devices) correlates strongly to reductions FEV1 (a measure of lung capacity). There are several peer reviewed papers which detail this. There are limits, Wheezing begins (low wheezerate) at around 20%-30% reduction in FEV1, then there is an approximate linear relationship between increase in wheezerate to a reduction of FEV1 of around 70% (coincidentially this is about 70% wheezerate). From this point wheezerate starts to reduce with further reduction in FEV1.

The problem with peak flow measurement is unless it is performed correctly (with maximum effort) the results are indicative at best. Further the maximum effort required can lead to increased asthma severity (exercise induced asthma). Not to mention, who would want to blow into a pipe when they are struggling to breath. The advantage of the AirSonea device is that it will provide a patient/parent with a quantitative measure (within the reduced -20% to -70% FEV1 zone), that will allow them monitor whether condition has improved or worsened and adjust their action plan accordingly - without effort from the patient.
