the opportunity for carbon fibre is in increased strength and weight reduction not wear properties.
I've been involved in motor racing at a high level for many years and the two properties above are everything. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent on saving grams while increasing rigidity (I know I've spent heaps on just this. The custom and off the shelf carbon parts are expensive and a price premium will always be paid for even a marginal benefit).
This application (carbon fibre) has so many applications that a commercial take up could be the making of FGR alone.
