I don't think the amount of patches used for promotion is a need to worry about. You would think the only time were they may be given out are for samples, when sales staff interact with the hospitals cardio unit to show a real demonstration of ease of use i.e. off the shelf and for surgeons to have a "feel" with the patch. Admedus may even supply patches for surgeon training at no cost but it would be highly unlikely they would be used for patients without proper procedures completed by the hospital and therefore I think very few of the 1600 patients implanted was a result of a "free" or "discount" patch. Free patches may help motivate change, but scientific/clinical evidence is needed to then implant a patient. This may be different with other products that do not depend on life.
