    Yes, it is an oxymoron, as the premise of will is to affect and without cause, there is no effect.

    I think that all boils down to the meaning of the term free. I certainly have a will, which I can manifest or convey through language, with the question being: is it free, or is it a product of my biology and environment?

    The problem here is that although it has generally been accepted that our will is not completely free of influence, there is not a scientific consensus against free will.
