I've noticed something similar to you over Christmas.
Many people I know who have owned NFC-capable iPhones and Samsung phones for many years have never actually used them to "tap and pay".
They always carried their wallet, so they always had their card, so they never used their phones to tap and pay.
Zip seems to have changed that behaviour completely. Quite remarkable really. Also nobody thinks of Zip as a credit card, the same negative reputation doesn't seem to apply? BNPL could certainly eat the credit card industry alive.
