Sorry @Harm. Forgot to mention that in fairness we also need to consider that the stock market crash of 2000–2002 caused the loss of $5 trillion in the market value of companies in the March 2000 to October 2002 period.
I guess lots of people were affected around then. And as the article states many companies took years to recover.
