Personally, I don't see REX as a threat. They have limited capital and an existing fleet that is ageing and needs attention.
The real threat is the new Virgin with all its leases reset. That gives them a head start over Qantas who don't get to do that reset.
Meanwhile, Alliance has a frugal cost base and is very efficiently run. They are expanding by 25 planes and are ready to grab any Government subsidised route that comes available in the 100 seat range (e.g. Sunshine Coast to Proserpine). They may be a threat, despite Qantas owning 19% of Alliance.
