Again, I'm no apologist for investment banking profession, but I really can't understand what it is that UBS have done wrong here in either a legal or ethical sense.
They have an analyst that covers RFG
That analyst conducted some research [*].
He/she then published the conclusions in a report issued into the public domain.
That, surely, is precisely how the equity research process is supposed to work, isn't it?
Where has UBS crossed the line between right and wrong?
[*] Note: That research and/or its conclusion may have been inaccurate, but there's nothing illegal about that. (In fact, in my opinion,
most broker research is flawed.)
