    Let's get some history straight.

After Joshua Nkomo was sidelined, the popular choice among Zimbabweans was the Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole. Following the Lancaster House Agreement in London, which was a negotiated settlement years earlier between Zimbabwe blacks and whites, and the British government led by that moron Harold Wilson, the CIA, in cahoots with the Brits, aided and abetted by the Commonwealth leaders (yes, including Australian PM, Malcolm Fraser) parachuted Robert Mugabe into power. Mugabe had hoodwinked the whites into believing that he was a tow-the-line kinda black man.

    That was 1980.

Mandela was released from prison in 1992. The person who succeeded Mandela as president was Thabo Mbeki. Mugabe and Mbeki were brothers-in-law. Mugabe's first wife and Mbeki's wife were sisters.

Africa is a continent of despots and dictators. That's just the way that it is. Two exceptions: Botswana and Ghana.
