I saw an interesting letter to an editor of an Ozzie newspaper last week
Here it is. I wish I had written it but someone did a better job and did it faster.
Excise the word “Infidel”
During several interviews Abu Bakar Bashir has repeatedly used the word “infidel”. This expression of intolerable fanaticism is the root of the awful phenomenon that created terrorism.
We should demand that this word is removed not only from the Muslim liturgy, but Arab vocabulary. It’s origin and use is no longer acceptable and is the very antithesis to modern society struggling to implement the peaceful coexistence in this global village.
Should Australian Muslims accept the term “infidel” they would ipso facto, regard 19 million of us as enemies. How would this contribute to harmony in a multi-ethnic society? Terrorists don’t operate in a vacuum; somebody knows and somebody helps, and to remain mute is to acquiesce.
