Just chit chat but the tailings, filling a saddle gully may be just the trick for the locals. Somewhere to put in a sportsground, cricket, football etc. or maybe some horsey stuff. Flat ground is at a premium around that way? Down the other end at Walhalla, back then the local miners had a cricket team. They always won their home matches. The main reason was the cricket ground was on a little plateau about 8 miles from Walhalla which could only be reached on foot, along some of the steepest and jagged trails anywhere. By the time the visitors got to the ground they were so jiggered by the effort of getting there the locals, more used to it, won in a stroll.
