So if you want to know why rift valleys have been all the rage in the last 5 years, there is a very quick explanation (easy to read, with lots of pictures) from an old tullow presentation.
http://www.tullowoil.com/files/pdf/uganda/exploration.pdf
Rift valley exploration throughout the world has yielded many areas of prolific production and as is well known the rift valley setting provides an extremely favorable regime for the development of source, reservoir, seal and trap formation
The likes Total, Tullow and Africa oil all booking massive reserves (in the billions each) from such exploration plays.
What’s it got to do with jacka? Well most of the board was instrumental in starting this whole east African rift valley bonanza,
And what area did they hand pick for JKA? Ruhuhu basin
Now check out the rifting
Lake Malawi (lake Nyasa) lies between Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania. There are more fish species in Lake Malawi than any other lake in the world (a high TOC) , and it is the third largest lake in Africa. It formed on the rift valley where the African Tectonic Plate is splitting in two.
The third largest and second deepest lake in Africa, it is also the ninth largest in the world
I have tried to highlight in green JKA Ruhuhu basin block
So in Tanzania, we have reported oil seeps on lake Nyasa (migration?) and hydrocarbons in the sediments, + the heat required for oil source rock maturation, a high potential of many structural traps because of the rifting/faulting + the expertise and knowledge.
Somalia, we have Jurassic rifting, and recently confirmed the presence of large rift-basin structures in a sedimentary basin (odewayne), with multiple oil seeps.
Just some ramblings, definitely not advice.
potentially a bright future, (once the options overhang seller f*&%ks off)
