It appears to me this drill location was actually selected to maximise potential pay zones...and not to selectively optimise any particular zone.
This is a very sensible approach for a wildcat well targeting an unknown structure.
They are on the outer flank of the Upper Ismay closure, which gradually shifts more central as they go deeper.
I do belive however that at least one other potential zone is picked up on the south east flank.
Then of course, we have the Alkali Gulch slightly offset from Leadville and the lower formations.
This drill is not optimally placed for any of the potential pay zones, but it does appear well placed to pick up at least the outer flanks of most of the zones.
Permitting was also an issue, so as Sue12 suggests, the "greens" may have impacted on the final site selection.
Interestingly, the are actually optimally placed for a horizontal well designed to target the Upper Ismay oil/gas targets...this could be the surprise second drill announcement of 2007, effectivley turning the originally proposed second well into a third?
Little additional permitting required to drill additional holes from the same platform...also much quicker and far less costly for so many reasons.
I guess logging and behind case testing will dictate here?
All good.
Not really tradable now...everyone should be simply holding their core positions and prepared to add to them once she finally breaks free again.
Cheers!
