In its intense nationalism, mass appeal, and dictatorial rule, Nazism shared many elements with Italian fascism. However, Nazism was far more extreme both in its ideas and in its practice. The neo Nazis of Aus are described right wing extremists. Violent thugs with an idolatry of the violence and hatred espoused by Hitler.
Dutton in his press conference was talking about extremists on both right and left. Yet there's no evidence of left wing extremists being violent in Aus, unless you count the violent clashes between union factions which were a feature of politics in the 1920-30s. Dutton is truly similar to the right wing extremists and IMO he mentioned left wing in the same manner as Trump did in 2018 - to try to normalise the violence of the right or at least to blame left as being as bad as the right.
