I'm just as peeved off as you, However isn't the offer only triggered at 50%. The Chinese could walk away with only what they have purchased on market (very unlikely though) that the way I read the offer. All shares are pledged and will only be paid for if they get over 50%. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The UK takeover panel did us no favors and I wasn't overall happy at the time.
