I thought RIO finished just up over 10% in the UK... but according to Reuters it was over 20% (see below)... I still can't see this happening (both have CEO's going out, BHP has just done an extensive share buy back) but hey I'll go with the flow for now...
LONDON (Reuters) - Shares in Rio Tinto (RIO.L: Quote, Profile, Research soared over 21 percent just before market close on Wednesday as traders cited market talk that rival miner BHP Billiton (BLT.L: Quote, Profile, Research was close to tabling a bid for the company.
"Markets are betting that an offer is due soon," one trader said.
BHP Billiton was up 5.4 percent.
A spokesman for Rio Tinto said the share price move was based on speculation, and added that the company had not received a bid and was not aware of any offer from BHP Billiton.
I thought RIO finished just up over 10% in the UK... but...
