Why didn't Rio, after initial legal advice and acknowledgement of their tardiness, seek to make a takeover of Caz for say something silly like $0.35? The result would have been that the Caz board would have been in caretaker mode and would not have been able to go around town and deal in the Shovelanna asset. That would have meant no Echeleon, no Investec, no BHP. Rio could have then protracted Caz into a drawn out takeover of which they might have picked them up for say $1. Pretty cheap in the scheme of things and a lesson learnt for Rio and anyone else with poor paper management skills.
But no, they were arrogant and just expected to be given it back. Rio don't deserve "Anna". The boys at Caz have shown the drive and resolve that has made WA the premier resources state in the world.
Anything short of a Caz victory would be a national disgrace.
