So average value aside,

whats to stop someone selling half their rio shares, on the ex date (assuming they bought well before) and replace with 28.29 script?

This average thing, is all fair and well for what is reasonable value.

But how many times, have we seen a rights issue sold down to the rights price?

Probably easier done with more speculative stocks, where the buy depth is thinner.

But it makes you wander, if on a larger scale, the sell down could follow.

Lets say its at the average price, 58??

I could still sell half my rio for 58 and buy new for 28???

So whats to stop the selling pressure?
