I fully agree, Chris. One of the more disturbing aspects of this unfortunate affair, apart from the detentions themselves, is the suggestion by some politicians and commentators that the offenses Hu is accused of would not be illegal in Australia.
The suggestion seems to be that bribery to obtain confidential information is either legal or tolerated in Australia. If that is the case it should not be, and the authorities should crack down hard on such practices to eliminate such perceptions.
