Barry Fitzgerald certainly appears to think that Rio are making a world class copper discovery up in the Paterson Province, as do the other big name miners he has spoken to, some of whom have address-pegged the entire belt. Barry's latest article is here:
https://www.resourcesrisingstars.co...ill-lines-fuel-talk-its-biggest-find-25-years
(AZY's recent presentations also have a very good map of the previous and current tenement situation, showing the new RIO leases, running all the way up to the coast):
And if as he says this is RIO's biggest discovery for the past 25 years, then it is a very consequential copper discovery indeed, as slide 7 of this presentation demonstrates:
http://www.riotinto.com/documents/1...p_exploration_conference_Stephen_McIntosh.pdf
If you look at slide 7 of that presentation, it lists all RIO's discoveries for the past 70 years. If you look at what else they've found just in the past 25 years, since 1993, they have found some absolute monsters. Huge copper deposits, like Sepon, Resolution, La Granja. Try Googling the tonnes of contained copper in a few of those.
And it is being suggested that this new find is bigger than Mt Isa.
So the question then is, is this new WA copper discovery big enough to be materially significant to RIO? Is it big enough to be share-price sensitive and be moving the stock up a little as rumour and fact leak out? And if it is, isn't it about time that they released a description of it to the ASX?
They will have to eventually. That grid drill pattern on Barry's satellite image says it all. It's big.
And when RIO do release the details to the ASX, and if as Barry Fitzgerald suggests it actually is the biggest discovery that the company has made in the past 25 years, then watch the collateral effect on the two little companies he names that are holding massive tracts of equally prospective land just along strike and just off to the east of the area that RIO is drilling.
And even a listed giant like RIO has an obligation to keep the market fully informed if a discovery is material to their share price. Competitive advantage or not, have to obey the listing rules. So once they've done the numbers, I am sure that the true facts about this discovery will finally be released.
And this is just what the West Australian mining industry needs. The next big find, to kick off another exploration boom. Coming shortly, I think!
