There has been a great deal written in attempt to validate religion by pointing out that humankind has embraced religion for the known history of humankind.

The majority of these religions have a celestial dictator who watches your every move and monitors your every thought to condemn you for overstepping some dictated line. That line includes what you should not eat, what you should not ware, who you should not sleep with, what you should not think etc. Unlike the earthbound dictators who you can leave when you die, there is no such luck with a celestial dictator who will follow you after death.

It is also mentioned that throughout history humans have been willing to kill and be killed by those they do not know and with whom they have no quarrel.

In spite of the silliness of embracing most religions that have been our lot throughout history and of going along with war, this is what the majority of humans have done throughout history. I believe that these tendencies should be discouraged in spite of their prevalence throughout history which are not good adverts for continuing with them.

The point is often raised: look at the good that religion has done - hospitals, laws etc. Well, we don't have to have these numerous silly religions to achieve these especially given that we should not have put up with the baggage that comes with these religions.

And the point is made; we need a new religion. Well, no that has been tried. Look for example at Christianity and Islam and their numerous sects. All guaranteed to cause division and a sense of superiority which leads to war.
