    OK, so it wouldn't work in Australia, but it never seems to be the problem in many European countries where alcohol is just part of the meal culture, rather than a getting pissed mechanism.

    We used to have a shooter sized glass of Mandarin liqueur at every birthday...4 of us so 4 times a year. Probably started around the age of 8 yrs. it was a celebration drink. We had no desire to raid the liqueur cabinet.
    And mum and dad didn't have the concept of serving alcohol to minors. It's part of our Italian culture to do stuff like that.

    Raising drinking ages or closing outlets early is curing the symptom and not the cause. Australia isn't Europe so I have no solution.

    By the way...Mandarin liqueur is damn hard to get. Too much alcohol is trashy. Good spirits ruined with premixed knock offs. But that's another tangent. Dan Murphy's sells Mandarin liqueur.
