I'm very disappointed that O'Farrell had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do something about the cesspit that is central Sydney late at night. Why does any one need to keep drinking after 3am? What is sophisticated and vibrant about drinking until the sun comes up? But if you want to do it, go home and continue on.

It's not earlier closing times that will kill the live music scene. It is the fact that 75% of surveyed Sydneysiders don't feel safe in the city after dark. So they stay at home and live music slowly dies. It's the excessive consumption of alcohol and drugs and resulting violence that is killing off quality nightlife in the city.

Sydney is not a sophisticated, vibrant city - it is a sad hateful multi-racial ghetto. Take away the harbour and what do you have? Bankok, Sau Paulo, Medan, Bogota

It was Mayor Guliani's zero tolerance (they invented the term) policies that started the amazing turnaround in after-dark New York City. A politician with guts and simple commonsense, with the best interests of the citizens at heart.
