I had been predicting the demise of VCR for a while (check my record) and it looks as though today I'll get my goose. As a long term Heartware shareholder, the collapse of VCR is not amazing news but it does take one competitor out of the market.
The bottom line as to why VCR never got traction was that it was very much the same as the Thoratec product; in size and performance. Why would doctors go with VCR when they already know the Thoratec system? Heartware on the other hand offers the doctors the dramatically shorter operation time and smaller product which does not impact on the abodomen. Short implant time and same return, of course doctors will look at them. VCR NEVER had a product pipeline. TETs does not count. HTW has the MVAD and then the IVAD in addition to TETs.
Its amazing to see the vast differences between the two companies (HTW and VCR) all the while they operate in similar line. If your not convinced look at the shareholder registers (i.e. HTW is 80% held by the top 20) and look at the Hotcopper board for HTW or HIN (its new code), there is not the endless uninformative comments.
Peace to VCR
