RISING electricity prices and slick accounting have injected billions into state government coffers just as record numbers of homeowners can’t pay their power bill.
The Government has reaped record returns from consumers for the third consecutive year, with its two power distribution companies delivering a combined $1.2 billion windfall from electricity profits, newly released financial accounts reveal.
Dividend payments from Ergon and Energex leapt 50 per cent in 2014-15, up from $798 million the previous year.
