Australians would not recieve any further franking credits for the forseeable future either way, as PPP has no forseeable taxable income in Australia - it a red herring.
As for NZ credits, well you just structure the deal to pay cash with credits out before the change of ownership is consumated.
Imho the sp rise is largely renewed appetite for selected oilers, eg COE,CVN plus a change in the conception PPP management triggered by the divi - could be 100% wrong on that.
