Irrespective of views on Bird sheet, or dust storms etc, imo, having back up reliable power is a no brainer. Exactly what this will look like I wont speculate on, but it is a must. Remember, you don't ever need anything..... until you do! And in that case....$$$
Reminds me of a time of drought down here in Victoria. Got so bad it did, a Desalination plant popped up! Largely gone unused since, but sitting there quietly sucking up taxpayer dollars ever since.
.........Actually, that makes me think. With unquestionable unstable weather patterns upon us and a ever increasing population both here in Australia and indeed the globe, is converting high volumes of sea water a real likely hood for our fresh water requirements going forward? And if so, do these Desalination plants consume much electricity??
