A mining charter plane was forced to turn around and return to an airstrip in the remote Murchison after one of its engines failed during a Perth-bound flight on Thursday morning.
The incident about 9.50am involved mid-tier gold producer Ramelius Resources, an East Perth company which mines in the Murchison, in and around Mt Magnet.
A spokesperson for Ramelius on Thursday afternoon said a “Perth-bound plane departing our Penny operations had to return shortly after take-off when one of its engines failed”.
The spokesperson said all passengers and crews returned safely to the airstrip at the Penny gold mine.
“Ramelius has notified relevant authorities and is working to get the affected passengers to their destination,” the company spokesperson said.
The spokesperson was “unable” to confirm how many people were on board and what type of aircraft was involved.
The Penny Gold mine is about 150km south-east of Ramelius’ Mt Magnet mining and processing operations and about 550km north-east of Perth.
Ramelius acquired the site in 2020 via an off-market takeover offer of Spectrum Metals.
