Yep coal prices are definitely going gang busters. Hard to believe they were only $30 a tonne not too many years back and even last year still only $70 so a tonne.
With thermal coal at $120+/tonne a more modest 2 million tonne year operation would be bringing in $240 million annual revenue. With 500 million tonnes there would be plenty of scope to ramp up production from that smaller starting point to a much higher level and still produce for many decades.
We shouldn't forget that this is a former operating coal mine and only shut down due to the change in the rail system from coal to diesel. On that basis we're not forging into virgin territory by speculating about them re-opening it profitably imo.
