The problem with the UN General Assembly, as I see it, is that the African, Arab, and Asian member nations out number European, North and South American member nations. West Europeans and Americans are losing influence in UN affairs, the sheer weight of number of African, Arab, and Asian members are now starting to show through in UN appointments.
The Security Council, which has veto power, is an entirely different story.
