Its my opinion that the USA is heading for another Civil war and there is nothing that can stop it. All the fractures in US society are getting larger by the day. Trump- without any shadow of a doubt - is the lynch pin and catalyst. He and his movement cannot be stopped by normal measures. It is nothing to do with Republicanism.
You have 2 totally irreconcilable USAs. 1. Progressive, emancipated, liberal , tolerant. multiracial outward looking, optimistic and anti gun lobby . Basically those that wish they had the civil stability of Canada and Western Europe. However they are weak because they're leaders are old and flaccid , they believe in the power of rational discussion and they believe-wrongly- that the constitution is unassailable. They are weakly armed but- the youth -and their leaders-are passionate and will fight. Broadly speaking- the North/ the Cities and the coast.
2. The Regressive , reactionary, anti- democratic, protectionist, pessimistic, paranoid , racist, misogynist right wing Judeo Christian fascist USA. They are strong, getting stronger, have energetic leaders who believe in the power of emotion, hate and violence. They are heavily armed. They are mainly older, almost universally white. They have no regard for the constitution whatsoever.(contrary to how they quote it to carry guns) They are now absolutely supported by the Supreme Court who will endeavour to enable their agenda in law. Broadly speaking- the South and Mid West. They were the rebels in 1861 and they will be the rebels again. As before the military will split. I
