If you want to put together an off-grid solar/battery system purely to make a return on investment, wait 5-10 years for efficiency and competition to drive prices down. For now, the market is people who want to buy for other reasons - enthusiasts; people for whom new grid connections would be prohibitively expensive; people in regions which regularly experience extended blackouts (cyclones, fires, downed trees, etc.); people who have critical equipment that needs to stay up no matter what. Probably other reasons as well, but I'm confident this already defines a substantial customer base at current prices.
