one of the biggest differences between tile and tin roofs is roof plumbers in most states have to be licensed and issue a certificate of compliance for any works above a set price. this is a 6yr warranty and covers you in the case of the roofer not being available. tilers aren't regulated and it falls back onto consumer affairs if there is a dispute.

the roof restoration industry is a sales industry for the large companies charging twice the price because they have more costs. the end product is the same as sole contractors although you need to get a reliable one as the industry is full of dodgys. word of mouth is always best.

the major household damage that was done in the victorian hail storms were to tiled roof. tiles got smashed and ended up on the ceiling plaster until the follow up rain softened the plaster and flooded the house. asbestos roofs weren't much better. the so called hail proof polycarb sheets weren't hail proof and an estimated 3-400k skylights bit the dust. tin roofs just got dented.
