I think it's a real shame that Australia doesn't make this move.
Funny how we all see things differently.
I remember being annoyed as a child that the Union Jack occupied about 25% of our flag. Never sat right with me, and I didn't even know what politics meant at that age.
So I guess it's not surprising that I would also find it quite ridiculous that in 2010, we still have someone from an obscenely rich annointed family in England as our "Head of State". Bizarre, and can't stand the submissiveness and the example of undeserved grandeur that it provides for our nation.
We like to think we're such a mob of larrikins and heroes etc. We don't even have the guts or spirit to break an irrelevant tie with a royal family and some country a zillion miles away. Very bad symbolism if you ask me...and of no practical good.
Very sad. Let the Poms have that stuff. We are surely not going to claim to be comfortable with that sort of weird and fake protocol that encapsulates any royal family. Vomit.
