The idea of multiplexing the same marker is usually to expand the measurement range -- one lane to measure Troponin when it is at the very lowest abundance, another to get numeric readings at a slightly higher abundance.

The very high sensitivity lane (for low levels) may become saturated (reach peak possible reading for that lane), thus limiting the maximum reading the test can return.

However multiple markers (adding BNP in particular) has been shown to be important in a number of published studies in emergency departments.
