Raider, on this issue I absolutely agree. Pity we didn't have that in place before Gillard foisted carbon tax on to us against the wishes of the majority. Shameful thing to do in a democracy.
I think a recall option would keep politicians on their toes. It should also exist for electorates, imo. If this had also been in place, I think both Oakshott and Windsor would have had to be more careful to properly represent the majority in their electorates.
And if an MP switches allegiences mid term, I think there should be a bi-election at the member's or receiving party's expense. Under those circumstances, such a bi-election should not be taxpayer expense.
If the above had been in place, there would have been a bi-election in both Thomson and Slipper's electorates and it would be putting power back into the hands of people which is where it should be in a democracy, imo.
