THE first asylum-seeker boat expected to be subject to Kevin Rudd's tough, new PNG policy has arrived at Christmas Island, carrying an estimated 74 passengers.
It is the first vessel to berth at the island since the Prime Minister yesterday afternoon pledged to give asylum seekers "no chance" of settling in Australia if they arrive by boat, under a dramatic toughening of border protection that is aimed at neutralizing one of Labor's biggest political dangers at the coming election.
If Rudd gets in, as soon as the quota is full (a few weeks after he wins an election) its back on. THe quota will be full, and we are going to be swamped like we have never been swamped before...
