It does seem to be fairly obvious. The rich and powerful will just have some small additional cost to their their lavish lifestyles, but will of course increasingly paint themselves as saviors of the earth and eco-warriors. This puts their own activities above scrutiny and allows an expansion of their brand-names leveraged on the global-warming hoax.
Of course these rich and powerful will increasingly own the carbon offset scams and most will just pay a portion of their own money to an enterprise they own, like moving money from one pocket to the other.
