I'm afraid previous PM's have set the standard and we are stuck with it.I wonder how much it's costing the Aussie taxpayer to cover the travel costs of all past, and still living, ex Prime Ministers.

I wonder if it covered 'that episode' when Malcolm lost his trousers or the other 'episode' when Rudd visited that night club in NY, blind folded we are lead to believe.

It's probably a relic of times long gone when to travel was a very time consuming affair, especialy when it involved overseas travel.I seem to recollect that it wasn't unusal for Menzies to be absent from Australia for a period of months.But then he was an Anglophile.
