Yes Reaper11, I do agree with the thrust of your sentiments.
Basically those who try and pretend that the Rudd Labor Government is neither successful nor popular are the ones flirting with their own delusion. They convince no-one but themselves. The truth is that the Government has gained in public perception since the last election and Rudd continues to enjoy very high public acceptance as Prime Minister. Even the traditional support base of the Coalition, namely, business groups support the Rudd Government strategy and do not agree with the Oppositions approach. Sadly,it appears that a viable Opposition will not be forthcoming until some of the Coalition old guard are pensioned off prior to the next election and allow new talent to be elected into their safe seats. This is necessary as it is unlikely that the Coalition will make any net gains at the next election to provide for new blood. In the meantime it seems only the minor parties and independents can be relied on to provide constructive Opposition.
Turnbull IMO is damaged goods as Opposition leader and the Government IMO will be hoping he is still leading the Coalition at the next election. However, at 19% for preferred PM he may not make it to the election. IMO if he loses the leadership he will likely resign immediately from politics. If he goes I would think Tony Abbott would become the caretaker leader charged with rebuilding the Coalitions fortunes. We need a viable Opposition and I hope they can get their act together in the interests of accountable government.
cheers
